A wave of bomb threats targeted multiple schools across Cyprus on Friday, prompting a swift and coordinated evacuation operation by the police. The threats, conveyed via lurid emails, contained menacing messages promising bomb attacks on numerous primary and secondary schools, as well as some kindergartens, on the island.

The evacuation process was conducted calmly, with authorities ensuring the safety of students and staff. However, the threats caused widespread panic among parents, many of whom chose to withdraw their children from school premises.

The emails referenced Islamic law, or Sharia, demanding the punishment of all unbelievers, and were composed in poor Greek, suggesting translation from another language. Security authorities are currently investigating the origin of the emails, which appeared to have been sent anonymously.
