Professor Peter Olufemi Adeniyi Foundation Commissions Upgraded School Library, Trains Community Leaders in Ikole-Ekiti

The Professor Peter Olufemi Adeniyi Foundation (PPOAF), established by former Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), Professor Emeritus Peter Adeniyi, has successfully completed its maiden projects in Ikole-Ekiti, Ekiti State, combining an educational infrastructure upgrade with leadership training for grassroots community leaders.

The highlight of the programme on November 27, 2025, was the commissioning of the upgraded Egbeoba High School Library. The facility was commissioned on behalf of the Governor of Ekiti State, His Excellency Hon. Biodun Oyebanji (BAO), by Dr. Adeyinka Adebayo, Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics at the Ekiti State Ministry of Education. The modernised library is expected to enhance access to learning resources, foster a culture of reading, and provide students with a conducive environment for academic excellence.

Speaking through his representative, the Governor said:
"The commissioning of this upgraded Egbeoba High School Library is more than the unveiling of a building. It is the opening of doors to knowledge, imagination, and opportunity for our young people. Education remains the strongest foundation for the future we are building, and every investment in learning is an investment in the destiny of our state."

He commended PPOAF for demonstrating a holistic approach to development, highlighting that the foundation’s work goes beyond structures to empower community leaders with skills, vision, and the capacity to mobilize resources for sustainable progress.

At the event, Professor Peter Adeniyi described the initiative as a personal commitment to giving back and investing in future generations. He stated:
"Education transformed my life, and I believe it remains the most powerful tool for community progress. This library is more than a building; it is a gateway to knowledge, opportunity, and hope for young people in Ikole-Ekiti. Our foundation is committed to creating environments where children can dream, learn, and compete confidently with their peers anywhere in the world."

Professor Adeniyi also emphasised the foundation’s mission to empower communities:
"Sustainable development begins at the grassroots. When community leaders are equipped with the right skills and knowledge, they become catalysts for positive change. Today’s workshop is about strengthening that capacity and building partnerships that will outlive us."

Community leaders at the event praised the foundation for its timely intervention, noting that the upgraded library would benefit not only Egbeoba High School students but also the wider Ikole-Ekiti community. A representative of the Community Development Associations remarked that access to books and modern learning resources would boost the intellectual growth, confidence, and future opportunities of local youth.

Following the commissioning, participants attended a Capacity Building Workshop for Community-Based Organisations (CBOs), Community Development Associations (CDAs), and traditional leaders. The workshop focused on leadership development and resource mobilisation, equipping attendees with practical skills to drive sustainable initiatives within their communities. Interactive sessions allowed participants to share experiences, explore collaborative strategies, and discuss grassroots development projects. Certificates of participation were presented to acknowledge commitment to community service.

Guests also toured the upgraded library, observing the modern learning resources now available to students.

The foundation noted that the programme reflects its broader vision of integrating education, leadership training, and community empowerment. PPOAF has signaled plans to expand similar initiatives across Ekiti State and beyond, fostering partnerships with government agencies and local stakeholders to promote sustainable development.
