RAESON Awards Fellowship to Sokoto State University Vice Chancellor and Three Others

The Renewable and Alternative Energy Society of Nigeria (RAESON) has honored Prof. Bashir Garba, Vice-Chancellor of Sokoto State University, alongside three others, with a prestigious fellowship award. The ceremony took place on Monday, June 3, 2024, at Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology in Wudil, Kano State, during the 12th Annual International Conference of the Society, themed "Green Energy for Socio-economic and Environmental Sustainability.

RAESON’s National President, Prof. Chidi E. Akujor, FAS, presented the award to Prof. Garba, recognizing his significant contributions to the field of renewable energy. Prof. Garba’s efforts in promoting sustainable energy solutions and environmental protection were highlighted, especially during his tenure as Director of the Energy Research Centre at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, and as Director of Energy Management, Training, and Manpower Development at the Energy Commission of Nigeria, Abuja.

Prof. Akujor lauded Prof. Garba as a champion of renewable energy, committed to addressing global warming and environmental sustainability. He encouraged the awardees to view the honor as a call to greater service to society and humanity.



Prof. Garba, an esteemed Professor of Applied Chemistry with expertise in renewable energy (biomass, biofuels, solar), expressed his gratitude to RAESON for the recognition. He reaffirmed his commitment to the Society and the pursuit of sustainable green energy solutions. This fellowship award joins his impressive roster of seven fellowships from various professional bodies and memberships in several others.

In his speech, Prof. Garba, representing the Chairman of the Occasion, Prof. A.S. Sambo, FAS, explained that green energy, also known as renewable energy, is derived from natural resources replenished at a faster rate than they are consumed. These resources include sunlight and wind, which are continually renewed. He emphasized the importance of collaboration among policymakers, scholars, and practitioners to harness green energy, which he described as crucial for socio-economic development, energy security, and environmental sustainability.

Prof. Garba was accompanied to the ceremony by the Bursar of Sokoto State University, Alh. Muhammad Sahabi Tambuwal, and the Principal Assistant Registrar, Office of the Vice-Chancellor, Mal. Muhammad Musa.
