Renowned Neuroscientist Prof. Bukar Bags Traditional Title in Damaturu

Professor Mahmoud Bukar Maina, a globally celebrated British-Nigerian neuroscientist and educator, has been conferred with the prestigious traditional title of "Shettima Ilumuye of Damaturu" by the Damaturu Emirate Council.

The title, meaning "Custodian of Knowledge and Enlightenment" in the Kanuri language, recognizes individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to education, intellectual advancement, and societal development.

Prof. Maina is a Wellcome Trust Career Development Fellow and globally renowned for his groundbreaking research on Alzheimer's disease and tauopathies. He is the Founder and Director of the Biomedical Science Research and Training Centre (BioRTC) at Yobe State University, which has trained over 300 early-career African scientists in neuroscience, bioimaging, and open science.
