Rivers Sole Administrator Inaugurates RSU Governing Council, Council Embarks on First Official Visit
On Thursday, 11th September 2025, the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral (Rtd.) Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, formally inaugurated the Governing Council of Rivers State University (RSU) at the Government House, Port Harcourt.

The ceremony also included the inauguration of governing councils for three other state-owned tertiary institutions: Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE), Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic, Rumuola, and Kenule Benson Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic, Bori.

Vice Admiral Ekwe Ibas, addressing attendees, highlighted the critical role of the councils in promoting accountability, academic excellence, and infrastructural development within the state’s tertiary institutions. He urged members to work with diligence and integrity to drive sustainable progress.

Following the inauguration, the RSU Governing Council, led by Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Okey Wali, SAN, paid their first official visit to the University on Friday, 12th September 2025. The visit involved interactions with university management, faculty, and students, as well as inspections of ongoing projects, reflecting the council’s commitment to improving institutional governance and academic standards.

The inauguration and official visit underscore Rivers State’s renewed focus on strengthening leadership and oversight in its tertiary education sector, according to the Rivers State Government.
