RUWASSA Establishes Environmental Health Clubs in Delta Schools

Delta State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA) has taken its campaign against social vices to public primary schools in the state, with the establishment of Environmental Health Clubs.

The General Manager of Delta RUWASSA, Engr. Clement Adiotomre, explained that the purpose of forming the club was to “create awareness on environmental issues such as protection, conservation, preservation and restoration, with emphasis on educating and empowering the pupils.”

The Delta RUWASSA General Manager, represented by the agency’s Director of Sanitation, Engr. Sunday Egbukile, spoke on Wednesday during the induction of learners into the Environmental Health/Risk Communication Club at Nduku Primary School, Ogbe-Ogume and Ishime Primary School, Ogume, both in Ndokwa West Local Government Area of Delta State.

He stated that good hygiene practice would maintain a balanced health and prevent diseases through cleanliness.Adiotomre also tasked the pupils on the need to stop open defecation and adopt the practice of good hygiene.

He encouraged the club members to take the campaign of ‘Build and use a toilet’ to their various homes and the community at large.He stated that there was a by-law in place that punishes offenders and appealed to the pupils to take the issues of environment and sanitation seriously.
