Taraba Poly Rector Urges New Students to Uphold Decorum and Academic Integrity
Dr. Amos Agbu, acting Rector of Taraba State Polytechnic, Suntai, has warned newly admitted students against indecent dressing, exam malpractices, and unauthorized protests during their matriculation ceremony.
Dr. Amos Agbu, the acting Rector of Taraba State Polytechnic, Suntai, has issued a stern warning to newly admitted students regarding the importance of maintaining decorum and academic integrity. During the matriculation ceremony for the 2023/2024 academic session, which saw over 2,500 new students welcomed, Dr. Agbu emphasized the institution's strict zero-tolerance policy towards social vices, including indecent dressing, examination malpractices, and unauthorized protests.
Dr. Agbu, while congratulating the students on their successful admission, highlighted the rigorous demands of academic life. He underscored that the journey ahead is not merely a celebration but requires dedication, hard work, and commitment to overcome the challenges that lie ahead.
He also addressed the new admission policy in Nigeria, stressing that all students must now take the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination to gain admission into higher institutions. Dr. Agbu urged students who entered the polytechnic without JAMB to register and participate in the upcoming 2024/2025 UTME.
The acting Rector praised Governor Agbu Kefas for his steadfast support of education in Taraba State since taking office in 2023. Dr. Agbu noted the governor's efforts to improve the educational landscape of the state and expressed gratitude for the significant contributions made towards the polytechnic's achievements.
Dr. Agbu also outlined several challenges facing the institution, including the need for funding for monthly running costs, utility vehicles, program accreditation, laboratory and classroom upgrades, and infrastructure improvements such as a perimeter fence and solar street lights.
In her address, Dr. Augustina Godwin, the State Commissioner for Education, who represented Governor Kefas, commended the polytechnic’s management and staff for their commitment to transforming the institution to a world-class standard. Dr. Godwin encouraged the new students to focus on their studies and strive to make the most of the opportunities provided.
Governor Kefas, in his remarks, highlighted the evolving nature of education in the 21st century and reaffirmed his administration's commitment to advancing educational standards in Taraba State. He encouraged the students to remain hardworking and avoid negative influences, emphasizing the importance of their role as future leaders.
The governor also praised Dr. Amos Agbu for his collaborative approach and urged continued efforts towards the advancement of the polytechnic.
