TASFUED Clarifies Honorary Doctorate Awards Say Honours Award not Exclusive to Governors
The Management of Tai Solarin Federal University of Education (TASFUED), Ijagun, Ogun State, has addressed recent misleading media reports regarding the conferment of Honorary Doctorate Degrees.
The Management of Tai Solarin Federal University of Education (TASFUED), Ijagun, Ogun State, has addressed recent misleading media reports regarding the conferment of Honorary Doctorate Degrees.
The University emphasizes that it has a longstanding tradition of awarding Honorary Doctorates to Civilian Governors of Ogun State in recognition of their executive stewardship and contributions to public education. This is a matter of verifiable public record:
- Otunba Gbenga Daniel, founder of the University, was the first serving Governor to receive the award in 2010.
- Senator Ibikunle Amosun, his successor, was similarly honoured.
The practice extends beyond State governance to national and global figures whose contributions to society are exemplary. Past recipients include:
- Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR
- Alhaji Aliko Dangote, CON
- Sir Kensington Adebutu
- Asiwaju Adebola Adegunwa
- Dr Tunde Lemo, among others
The recent conferment upon His Excellency, Prince (Dr.) Dapo Abiodun, CON, Governor of Ogun State, continues this consistent tradition and is neither anomalous nor extraordinary.
The University also acknowledges the historic role of Aremo Olusegun Osoba, CFR, whose governance during the Third Republic led to the legislative transformation of Tai Solarin College of Education into a degree-awarding institution.
Furthermore, honours are not exclusive to Governors. Paramount Rulers of Ogun State and other distinguished Nigerians who have significantly advanced national development have also been recognised.
The Management condemns attempts to misrepresent facts and create disaffection, urging the public to disregard misinformation. TASFUED remains committed to recognising excellence and distinguished service in line with established traditions and institutional prerogative.
