Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, confirmed this distressing event during a press briefing held in her office. She disclosed that the closure of the school was not only in response to the grievous incident but also due to its unlawful operation.

Expressing profound concern, Prof. Chuma-Udeh revealed that the chances of the victim's recovery, currently hospitalized, are bleak, standing at a mere 20% as conveyed by medical experts.

Condemning the barbaric act, the Commissioner emphasized the state's zero-tolerance stance towards illegal educational establishments and violence against children. She cautioned that any individual involved in such unlawful activities would face severe legal consequences.

"We received this unfortunate incident from an illegal school in Mgbakwu that a child was beaten to a coma over the weekend," stated Prof. Chuma-Udeh. "On behalf of the State Government, we invited the proprietress of the illegal school as well as the teacher who purportedly beat the child. We've handed the matter to the police for further investigations, as we await Mr. Governor's directives."
