Thomas Adewumi University (TAU) has reinforced its commitment to technological innovation and student empowerment with the successful acquisition of a ₦53 million grant for a six-month international tech mentorship programme.

The initiative, spearheaded by Dr. Samuel Farohunbi, Director of the TAU Career Centre, was awarded by Mentors Without Borders (MWB), Romania, through TAU’s partnership with Financial Services Innovators (FSI), Lagos, under the Tech Without Borders Mentorship Programme.
The programme is set to upskill 50 selected TAU students, providing them with six months of intensive mentorship valued at ₦1 million per student. Participants will receive guidance from experts at globally recognized tech companies, including Google, Microsoft, Apple, and Atlas, while gaining access to digital resources and professional development opportunities.
To support the programme, tech gadgets worth ₦3 million were donated to the university, including five high-end laptops, ten Logitech H390 headsets, and a Starlink internet device with a six-month subscription. Dr. Farohunbi emphasized that the mentorship aims to bridge classroom learning with real-world application, enabling students to develop practical solutions and competitive skills for the global job market.

Mr. Olaolu Olowe, Programme Manager of FSI, highlighted that TAU will serve as a pilot institution for the initiative, which focuses on equipping young innovators with the tools to develop transformative solutions for Africa. The mentorship will cover Web Development, Machine Learning, AI Product Management, Digital Marketing, Project Management, and Technical Sales Support, combining theoretical lessons with hands-on projects to build students’ portfolios and future employability.
Receiving the donated gadgets, Vice-Chancellor Professor Francisca Oladipo commended FSI and Mentors Without Borders for their dedication to student development. She stated, “This initiative aligns perfectly with our vision at Thomas Adewumi University to produce graduates who possess at least two international digital skills before graduation and will strengthen our resolve to build globally competitive, tech-driven innovators.”
The ₦53 million Tech Mentorship Programme represents a major milestone in TAU’s pursuit of excellence in digital education, solidifying its position as a leading STEM-focused private institution in Nigeria.
