Eyewitnesses described the harrowing moments when the structure gave way. One laborer, who narrowly escaped the collapse, recounted his experience, still visibly shaken. "I was loading a bag of stones when the building came down. The owner of the house was here, supervising. I was fortunate to survive because I had stepped out to wash my hands," he said, his voice trembling with relief.
Emergency response teams, including personnel from the Ebonyi State Police and the Ministry of Works and Capital Development Authority, swiftly mobilized to the scene. Their primary goal: to rescue the trapped workers, whose fate hung in the balance as hours passed.
