UI Celebrates Professor Aderonke Baiyeroju's Retirement and 70th Birthday

The University of Ibadan (UI) recently held a valedictory programme to commemorate the retirement of Professor Aderonke Mojisola Baiyeroju, a pioneer female professor of Ophthalmology in Nigeria.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Professor Peter O. Olapegba, described Professor Baiyeroju as a beacon of excellence in Clinical Sciences, highlighting her transformative leadership, dedication, and groundbreaking contributions to the field of Ophthalmology.

Her research in pediatric cataracts, retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), and glaucoma has led to the development of groundbreaking protocols for early diagnosis and treatment in resource-limited settings.

She has held various administrative positions, including Head of the Department of Ophthalmology, Deputy Provost of the College of Medicine, and Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic.

 Professor Baiyeroju is known for her unshakable integrity, wisdom, and student-centered advocacy.

The programme featured goodwill messages from various stakeholders, including the Provost of the College of Medicine, the Chief Medical Director of the University College Hospital, and the Dean of the Faculty of Clinical Sciences. An autobiography titled "Sublimely Blessed" was also unveiled and launched during the programme.
