UI Management Condoles with the Banjo Family
The University of Ibadan (UI) expressed condolences to the family of Emeritus Professor Ladipo Ayodeji Banjo, its longest-serving Vice-Chancellor, following his passing. A team of UI's Principal Officers visited the family to convey their sympathies.
The University of Ibadan (UI) community is in mourning following the demise of Emeritus Professor Ladipo Ayodeji Banjo, the institution's longest-serving Vice-Chancellor. A team of Principal Officers led by Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, Professor Aderonke M. Baiyeroju, visited the Bodija home of the late professor to pay their respects.

Professor Baiyeroju conveyed condolences on behalf of the university's Council, Senate, Congregation, staff, and students. She expressed shock at the passing of Emeritus Professor Banjo, who was not only a former VC but also a beloved figure on campus.
Despite reaching the age of 90, Emeritus Professor Banjo's death came as a shock to many due to his impactful presence and cherished legacy. The team was received by Mr. Gbenga Adeogun, a grandson of the deceased, who shared that Emeritus Professor Banjo passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 24, 2024.
UI Registrar, Mr. Ganiu Saliu, offered prayers for the well-being of the Banjo family, the university community, and Nigeria as a whole, highlighting Professor Banjo's spirit of service and dedication.
Earlier this month, UI celebrated Emeritus Professor Banjo's 90th birthday at a concert organized by The Ibadan Philharmonic Society in collaboration with the university. Described as a distinguished scholar, administrator, mentor, author, and sportsman, Emeritus Professor Banjo leaves behind a rich legacy at UI, where he served as VC from 1984 to 1991.

The visiting team included prominent members of UI's leadership, including Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research Innovation and Strategic Partnerships, Professor Oluyemisi A. Bamgbose, SAN; Registrar, Mr. Ganiu Oke Saliu; University Librarian, Dr. Mercy A. Iroaganachi; and the University's Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Adejoke O. Akinpelu.
The passing of Emeritus Professor Banjo marks the end of an era at UI, but his contributions and influence will continue to resonate within the university community and beyond.
