UNIDEL Career Conversation Series Empowers Environmental Sciences Students for Global Markets

The Career Development and Counselling Centre (CDCC) of the University of Delta (UNIDEL), Agbor, hosted its "101 Career Conversation" series on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at the Owa-Alero Campus.

The initiative aims to bridge the gap between academic theory and professional workforce readiness for students in the Faculty of Environmental Sciences.

Opening the event, Mrs. Olapeju Iyamah lauded Vice-Chancellor Prof. Stella Chiemeke for her strategic focus on student career growth. She noted that the series is a critical tool for helping students build strong professional identities while preventing uninformed career choices. Dr. Cyprain Okoduwa, representing the Vice-Chancellor, echoed these sentiments, affirming the institution's commitment to producing graduates who are competitive in the global economy.

The keynote speaker, Architect Andy Ifeanyi Imafidon, CEO of Imafy-Donia Consult Limited, delivered a compelling lecture on the interdisciplinary nature of the field. He emphasized that environmental science is no longer an elective discipline but a necessity for global survival, addressing critical issues such as:

Climate Change & Energy Transition: Navigating the shift to renewable energy.

National Challenges: Tackling oil pollution in the Niger Delta, urban flooding, and erosion.

Economic Pillars: Balancing environmental protection with economic viability and social well-being.

Arch. Imafidon outlined lucrative pathways for students, including GIS and Remote Sensing, Green Entrepreneurship, Environmental Policy Advocacy, and Waste Management. He identified high-demand technical skills—specifically data analysis and environmental assessment—as essential for those seeking international opportunities.

Adding a motivational perspective, the pioneer Dean of the Faculty, Dr. William N. Nwaki, challenged students to remain disciplined. He remarked that by their third year, students are already positioned for high-income potential if they leverage the practical aspects of their training.

The event concluded with an interactive session involving senior university officials, including Dr. Olufunke Chenube, Acting Director of the CDCC, and representatives from the Faculty of Engineering, marking a successful cross-disciplinary effort in career preparation.
