 The University of Lagos (UNILAG) successfully commemorated the 2024 World Intellectual Property Day, underscoring the importance of intellectual property (IP) rights in fostering innovation and creativity.

To mark the occasion, UNILAG organized a series of events aimed at raising awareness and promoting understanding of IP rights among students and the broader community. One notable initiative was a sensitization walk led by members of the Intellectual Property Club, Faculty of Law, and the Innovation and Technology Management Office (ITMO). Participants engaged in an awareness campaign across the Akoka and Idi-Araba campuses, distributing informational materials and fostering discussions on the significance of IP rights.

In addition to the sensitization walk, UNILAG hosted an interactive radio show on UNILAG 103.1FM, where renowned IP experts shared insights and expertise on IP rights. Dr. Ifeoma Oluwasemilore, Mr. Chukwuemeka Nwaokolo, and Miss Victoria Sogade, President of the UNILAG IP Club, discussed the importance of respecting and protecting IP rights in today's innovative landscape.

The Dean of the Faculty of Law, Professor Ige Bolodeoku, and Professor Abiola Sanni, SAN, Head of the Department of Commercial and Industrial Law, engaged students in discussions about the role of IP in innovation and creativity, offering practical advice and addressing common misconceptions.

Reflecting on the commemoration, Project Manager of ITMO-UNILAG, Mr. Chukwuemeka Nwaokolo, emphasized the importance of IP rights in protecting creations and inventions, urging members of the university community to develop an understanding of IP rights and make informed decisions about their creative work.
