UNILAG Professor Appointed Chairman of Lagos Urban Development Technical Committee
Professor Taibat Lawanson, Co-Director at the Centre for Housing and Sustainable Development at the University of Lagos, has been appointed Chairman of the Technical Committee for the Lagos Urban Development Policy (LSUDP).

The University of Lagos is proud to announce that Professor Taibat Lawanson, Co-Director at the Centre for Housing and Sustainable Development, has been appointed as the Chairman of the Technical Committee for the Preparation of the Lagos Urban Development Policy (LSUDP). The committee was inaugurated on May 31, 2024, by Dr. Jide Babatunde, Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on electronic Geographic Information System (e-GIS).
The Technical Committee for LSUDP plays a crucial role in supporting evidence-based urban governance and decision-making to tackle the challenges of urbanization and promote sustainable development in Lagos. Urban Development Policies are essential for addressing urban growth issues and fostering sustainable development.
The committee includes notable alumni from the University of Lagos:
- Town Planner Lookman Oshodi
- Town Planner Adekunle Salami
- Dr. Olanrewaju Bakinson
- Mrs. Bunmi Alugbin
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, FAS, OON, extended her congratulations to Professor Lawanson on behalf of the university's staff and students. She expressed confidence in Professor Lawanson's leadership and wished her success in her new role.
