UNILAG’s Institute of African and Diaspora Studies Hosts Inaugural 2025 Lagos Conference

The Institute of African and Diaspora Studies (IADS), University of Lagos, will hold the inaugural edition of the Lagos Conference themed “Our Lagos, Their Lagos” from Thursday, September 25 to Saturday, September 27, 2025.

UNILAG’s Institute of African and Diaspora Studies Hosts Inaugural 2025 Lagos Conference

The Institute of African and Diaspora Studies (IADS), University of Lagos, will hold the inaugural edition of the Lagos Conference themed “Our Lagos, Their Lagos” from Thursday, September 25 to Saturday, September 27, 2025.

The opening session is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. at the Arthur Mbanefo Digital Research Centre, University of Lagos.

The Lagos Conference will convene over 100 scholars, activists, and leaders to critically explore Lagos’ identity. Discussions will focus on the city’s heritage, disputes, migration patterns, and the urban and linguistic dynamics shaping its future.

Highlights of the event include a keynote address by Professor Siyan Oyeweso, Professor of History and Pro-Chancellor, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, and a lead paper presentation by Dr. Adelusi-Adeluyi, Professor of History, Howard University, USA.

The conference will also feature the Lagos Film and Documentary Colloquium on Saturday, September 27, 2025, showcasing cinematic explorations of Lagos’ diverse stories.
