The University of Ilorin's Vice Chancellor, Professor Wahab Egbewole (SAN), shared that the institution has achieved a significant milestone, having produced 36 patents aimed at positively impacting society and fostering national development. He made this announcement at the 37th and 38th combined convocation ceremonies held in Ilorin.

The Vice Chancellor underscored that these patents were developed in collaboration with the federal government through the National Office of Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NATOP) in Abuja, with the primary goal of enhancing research and innovation.

He highlighted the remarkable contribution of the University of Ilorin to patenting in Nigeria, positioning it as one of the leading institutions in the country regarding patents.The patents span across various fields, including medicine, agriculture, engineering, and information technology. Specifically, the patents are distributed as follows:

- Medical: 5 patents

- Agriculture: 5 patents

- Engineering: 16 patents

- Food: 1 patent

- Information Technology: 4 patents

- Petrochemical: 3 patents

- Defence: 1 patent

- Energy: 1 patent

Furthermore, Professor Egbewole mentioned that these patents are currently being prepared for commercialization, emphasizing that the university's research efforts aim to make a significant impact on society and community development.
