UNILORIN retains top spot in JAMB institutional rankings

The University of Ilorin has once again emerged as the Most Subscribed Institution by candidates in the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Institutional Ranking for the 2022/2023 admission exercise.

The University was also ranked first in the category of Institution with the Highest Number of Admitted International Students, with 70 international students, beating Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, with 18 foreign students, to the second position.

UN.ILORIN has been the most sought-after institution by admission seekers since 2013 and has been the winner of the JAMB award since its introduction in 2018. Last year, the university won N150 million, N75 million for being the Most Subscribed Institution by candidates and N75 million for admitting the highest number of international students.

The rankings, published in last week’s edition of JAMB’s weekly newsletter, JAMBULLETIN, evaluate Nigerian tertiary institutions based on various criteria for the 2022/2023 academic session. The criteria encompass five distinct areas: Most Subscribed Institutions by Candidates, Most National in Terms of Admission Spread, Most Improved in Gender Balance, Most International Students, and Most Compliant to Admission Guidelines.

In the category of Most Subscribed Institution by Candidates, the University of Ilorin secured the top spot with 97,351 applicants. The University of Lagos followed with 75,967 candidates, Nnamdi Azikiwe University had 58,956, Bayero University attracted 57,150, and the University of Benin garnered 55,455 candidates.

The University of Ilorin also topped the Admission of International Students category with 70 international students. Ahmadu Bello University followed with 18 students, the University of Maiduguri had 12, Nile University welcomed five, and Ebonyi State University admitted three international students.
