In a heartfelt address delivered on September 16, 2024, during a welcoming ceremony for new Muslim staff members, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), urged attendees to embody Islamic principles in their professional conduct.

The event, held at the UNILORIN Multipurpose Hall, was attended by several dignitaries and organized by the University of Ilorin Muslim Community. Prof. Egbewole, represented by Deputy Vice Chancellor (Management Services), Prof. Suleiman Folorunsho Ambali, emphasized the importance of integrity, fairness, and compassion in daily dealings, reminding the new staff of their influential role within the university.

“Your conduct should serve as an example to students and colleagues alike,” Prof. Egbewole stated, advocating for the integration of Islamic values into their work to enhance the university's growth and development. He highlighted the necessity of adhering to principles of patience, justice, and uniqueness in fulfilling their duties.

The Vice Chancellor encouraged new staff to seize professional development opportunities provided by the university, contributing to the SMART Agenda aligned with the Vision 1-10-500 framework, which seeks to position UNILORIN as a global academic leader.

The Registrar, Mr. Monsur Adeleke Alfanfa, represented by Deputy Registrar Dr. A. M. Ajao, delivered a lecture titled “Islamic Etiquette and Professional Conduct,” urging new staff to ground their actions in the teachings of the Quran and Hadith, thereby ensuring a rewarding experience within the university community.

In his welcome address, Prof. Mudathir Olalere Yusuf, Chairman of the UNILORIN Muslim Community, emphasized compliance with the university's ethical standards, reminding new appointees to express gratitude for their selection and to recognize their responsibilities.

The Chief Imam of the UNILORIN Muslim Community, Prof. Nasir Abdul-Salam, stressed the solemnity of the oath taken by new staff, linking it to their commitments to both the university and Allah. He encouraged staff to familiarize themselves with the university's mission and vision to guide their professional conduct.

Prof. Ibrahim Abdulqadir Abikan, from the Department of Islamic Law, urged unity among all staff, regardless of religious differences, to foster cooperation and mutual respect within the university environment.

Attendees were also advised by Dr. Rasheed Adekeye Odunola, Director of Health Services, to register for the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), emphasizing the importance of health for overall productivity.

The event concluded with a call to uphold high standards as representatives of the UNILORIN Muslim Community, as expressed by Prof. Azizat O. Amoloye-Adebayo, Head of the Department of Islamic Law.
