UNIOSUN VC Appoints Professor Oyeweso as Provost of Postgraduate College

The Vice-Chancellor of Osun State University (UNIOSUN), Professor ‘Ayo Clement Adebooye, has appointed Professor Siyan Oyeweso, a distinguished Professor of History from the College of Humanities and Culture, as the Acting Provost of the Postgraduate College.

The appointment of Professor Oyeweso was officially announced in a statement released by the University’s Public Relations Officer, Ademola Adesoji, on Tuesday, February 20, 2024. According to the statement, Professor Oyeweso will assume responsibility for the administration of Postgraduate studies in the University, reporting directly to the Vice-Chancellor. His appointment became effective from Wednesday, February 14, 2024.

Professor Oyeweso is highly esteemed in academic circles, having graduated with a Second Class (Upper Division) from the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) and subsequently obtaining his M.A. degree and Ph.D. from the same institution. He has held various key positions within the University, including serving as the Pioneer Provost of the College of Humanities and Culture, Ikire Campus, and as the Pioneer Director of UNIOSUN Business School. Additionally, he has chaired the Committee of Provosts, Deans, and Directors, served as Director of the Centre for Human Resource Development and Life-Long Learning, and held the position of Director of Advancement, among other roles.

Furthermore, Professor Oyeweso is a Fellow of the Historical Society of Nigeria and a member of the Nigerian Academy of Letters. His remarkable academic accomplishments and significant contributions to the field of history have garnered him international recognition. He is renowned for his expertise in Nigerian history, politics, religion, and culture, as evidenced by his extensive publications dating back to 1986. Professor Oyeweso's eloquence and proficiency in public speaking have earned him numerous national and international awards and research grants.

Ademola Adesoji, the University’s Public Relations Officer, emphasized Professor Oyeweso's illustrious career and invaluable contributions to academia, highlighting his esteemed reputation as a leading authority in Nigerian history and culture.
