Universities Still in IPPIS, ASUU Nsukka Zone Reveals

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Nsukka Zone, has revealed that federal universities are still under the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS), despite previous directives.

Addressing journalists in Makurdi on Tuesday, Zonal Coordinator Comrade Raphael Amokaha stated that recent payments to members indicate a return to the controversial IPPIS system.

While a federal executive directive had instructed the removal of universities and other tertiary institutions from IPPIS, Comrade Amokaha highlighted that this directive has not been implemented.

"It was therefore with delight that the union received the news that the president of the Federal Republic, through the Federal Executive Council, had directed the immediate removal of universities from IPPIS. Regrettably, this directive is yet to be complied with," he said.

The Zonal Coordinator also expressed concern over the emergence of what he referred to as a 'new IPPIS,' emphasizing that any form of IPPIS, old or new, is rejected by the union.

Furthermore, Comrade Amokaha called on the federal government to address the issue of withheld salaries for its members, stating that the four-month offer by the government was unacceptable.
