University of Ibadan Unveils New Office Block to Enhance Medical Education and Research
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, mni, FAS, fspsp, has officially inaugurated a newly completed office block at the College of Medicine, aimed at advancing teaching, research, and service to humanity.

The opening ceremony marked a significant milestone in the university’s commitment to improving infrastructure for its academic community.
The state-of-the-art office block spans three levels and features a total of 12 professorial offices, 6 personal assistant offices, 17 additional offices, a 20-capacity classroom, a staff lounge, a boardroom, and modern conveniences, including a functioning elevator. This facility is expected to enhance the working environment for faculty and support staff while providing essential resources for students.
Professor Adebowale highlighted that this facility originated as part of a 2013 Special Intervention project funded by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), which had faced delays due to funding challenges. He expressed gratitude to the contractor, an alumnus of the university, for his dedication and effort in bringing the project to fruition as part of TETFund's 2023 Annual Intervention Project.
During the inauguration, the Vice-Chancellor addressed the pressing issue of insufficient office accommodation within the College of Medicine and expressed hope that the new office block would help alleviate some of these challenges. He urged faculty and students to manage the facility effectively, ensuring that it serves its intended purpose and contributes to the university's mission of academic excellence.
The Provost of the College of Medicine, Professor T. O. Ogundiran, expressed his appreciation for the support from the university management, TETFund, and the project team, noting that the new building is a significant enhancement to the college’s service delivery. He echoed the need for additional infrastructure to further improve conditions for staff and students.
The ceremony was also attended by Professor Jesse Otegbayo, Chief Medical Director of the University College Hospital, represented by Professor Olusola Olawoye, Deputy Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee (DCMAC, Clinical Services) UCH, underscoring the collaboration between the university and its teaching hospital in advancing medical education and healthcare services.
With this new facility, the University of Ibadan reinforces its commitment to providing quality education, research opportunities, and facilities that support the growing demands of the medical community.
