The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, Anambra State, has dismissed as false and misleading reports linking the institution to a viral video alleging that one of its lecturers was caught in an inappropriate act with a female student on campus.
The video, which began circulating online on Wednesday, allegedly showed a lecturer being confronted by students after he was reportedly caught in a compromising situation with a female student inside an office.
In the footage, several students were seen forcing their way into the office in an attempt to apprehend the lecturer. Upon gaining entry, the man reportedly escaped by jumping through a window before fleeing the scene.
A voiceover accompanying the video claimed that the incident occurred at UNIZIK and described the lecturer as a "notorious randy" man allegedly known within the institution.

However, in a statement issued on Thursday, the university's Director of Information and Public Relations, Aloysius Attah, said investigations had confirmed that neither the individuals in the video nor the location of the incident had any connection with Nnamdi Azikiwe University.
According to Attah, the incident did not take place on the university's campus, while the man featured in the video is not a member of the institution's staff.
"The attention of the management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has been drawn to a viral video and news reports circulating online about a lecturer erroneously identified as a staff of Nnamdi Azikiwe University reportedly caught in an inappropriate behaviour with a student within a university premises.
"We wish to categorically state that the report is not only false but misleading. After due verification, it has been established that the incident did not happen at Nnamdi Azikiwe University.
"The man in question seen in the viral video is also not a staff of Nnamdi Azikiwe University. For the records, no staff or student of Nnamdi Azikiwe University is connected in any way to the said incident.
"Nnamdi Azikiwe University upholds the highest standards of professional conduct and discipline among its staff and students. Staff members of the university are guided by strong ethics, while the university management also has zero tolerance for students' exploitation under any guise.
"We will not be associated with false information that damages the reputation of our institution."
The university also expressed concern over the growing spread of misinformation through social media and citizen journalism, noting that the rush to break news often fuels the circulation of false and misleading reports.
It added that while digital communication has accelerated the dissemination of information, it has also made it easier to verify facts before publication.
UNIZIK urged members of the public, media organisations and online platforms to refrain from sharing unverified information and called on those who published the claims to retract and correct the reports.
