UNIZIK Governing Council Inspects College of Health Sciences Facilities in Nnewi and Neni

The Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) Governing Council, led by Pro-Chancellor and Chairman Barr. Monsuru Olugbenga Kukoyi, conducted a high-level assessment tour of the College of Health Sciences on Tuesday, February 3, and Wednesday, February 4, 2026. 

The delegation, which included the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, visited multiple locations including the Okofia and Akamili campuses in Nnewi, as well as the university’s facilities in Neni. The visit was aimed at ensuring that ongoing construction and existing infrastructure align with the university's mission for academic and clinical excellence. 

The tour focused on several strategic projects designed to modernise the training of medical and health professionals:

Akamili Permanent Site: Reviewing the progress of massive infrastructural development aimed at expanding clinical and research capacity.

Okofia Campus: Inspecting the recently upgraded CBT/ICT Centre and the reconstruction of the Physiology Department, which followed a major fire incident in late 2024.

Student Welfare: Assessing the condition of hostels and living spaces, with the Vice-Chancellor reiterating his commitment to improving student accommodations and power supply.

Maintenance Culture: The Pro-Chancellor emphasized a shift toward a "culture of maintenance," noting that institutional funding must be matched by taking ownership of existing public facilities. 

Barr. Kukoyi affirmed the Council's commitment to building a campus at Nnewi that is at par with the main campus in Awka, supporting the "Renewed Hope" agenda of the Federal Government for higher education. This tour follows a series of landmark visits by Prof. Anyaehie, who has been actively engaging with campus stakeholders since his historic visit in mid-January 2026.
