UNIZIK: Prof. Virginia E. Ejiofor Delivers 115th Inaugural Lecture

Speaking on the topic, “Information Technology: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly,” Prof. Ejiofor explored the dual nature of information technology, describing it as both a builder and a destroyer. She explained that while information technology has transformed communication, education, and global connectivity, its misuse has also created challenges such as misinformation, cybercrime, and social isolation.
“Information Technology can be good on a very good day and bad on other days,” she remarked, emphasizing the need for ethical application, proper regulation, and improved digital literacy to ensure that technology continues to serve humanity positively.

In her remarks, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Carol Chinyelugo Arinze-Umobi, represented by Professor Josephat Ogbuagu, Chairman of the Inaugural Committee, commended Professor Ejiofor for her depth of scholarship and insightful delivery. She expressed confidence that the lecturer had done justice to the topic and contributed meaningfully to the intellectual development of the university community.
At the end of the event, Professor Virginia Ebere Ejiofor was officially decorated with a medal, marking her formal recognition as the 115th Inaugural Lecturer of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.
