UNIZIK Sacks Prof. Ikechebelu, Appoints Female Acting VC in Memo

The governing council of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) convened on Saturday, July 20, 2024, and decided to dismiss Prof. Joe Ikechebelu from his position as Vice-Chancellor, despite his having been in office for only two months. Prof. Carol Umobi has been appointed as the new acting Vice-Chancellor.The appointment was detailed in a memo that reads: 

"I am pleased to inform you that in accordance with the provisions of Section 4 of First Schedule, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Act CAP 139, LFN 2004 as amended by the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) (Amended) Act 2007, the Governing Council has approved your appointment as Acting Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka on the recommendation of the University Senate.
