In the face of Nigeria's worsening inflation and continuous decline of the Naira, Joy Ezeilo, a professor of law at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, expressed her distress over the rising cost of water in Enugu State.

Ezeilo revealed that she now spends a significant portion of her salary just to purchase water each month. In a social media post, she disclosed spending ₦40,000 for a single trip load of water, representing about one-fifth of her professorial cadre salary in a federal university.
