VC Restates Zero-Tolerance for Misconduct as KWASU Matriculates 14,290 Students

Fourteen thousand two hundred and twenty new students took the Matriculation Oath of Kwara State University, Malete, on Thursday, January 22, 2026 at the Mini Convocation Arena of the institution.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, while addressing the matriculating students, congratulated them for being successful in their admission quest out of over thirty thousand candidates who applied to the University.

“I congratulate all new students on successfully gaining admission into this institution and for being part of this formal induction and integration into KWASU’s academic community. Of the 30,221 candidates that applied for admission, only 14,290 were admitted for the 2025/2026 session. You should, therefore, consider yourselves fortunate to be part of those admitted to this world class University.

“Today’s ceremony is an important one for you. This ceremony confirms that you are now bona fide students of Kwara State University, Malete, following the successful completion of a series of processes. A matriculation ceremony is not a mere ceremonial ritual. It is a solemn academic covenant between you and the University,” the Vice-Chancellor stated.

Professor Jimoh assured the students that KWASU has adequate human and material resources to bring out the best in them academically and morally. He noted that both teaching and non-teaching staff are committed to supporting students throughout their academic journey, urging them to make the best use of the University’s facilities and opportunities.

He cautioned the students against misconduct, stressing the University’s zero-tolerance stance for examination malpractice, cultism, sexual harassment, drug abuse, and other social vices.

“Any student found culpable of these offences will face severe sanctions, including suspension or expulsion, regardless of status, background, or influence. I therefore urge you to shun all these vices as the University will not hesitate to apply the prescribed sanctions on any student found committing any act of misconduct. To be forewarned is to be forearmed.

“The University has invested heavily in infrastructure, including lecture halls, laboratories, libraries, hostels, ICT facilities, and recreational centres, to support your learning and comfort. These facilities are provided for your use, not abuse. Handle all University property with care. Vandalism, theft, and misuse of facilities are serious offences and will attract appropriate sanctions.
