ABU Senate Applauds University and Staff for Major Achievements, Including German Patents and JAMB Award

The Senate of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, has congratulated its staff and the university for recent significant accomplishments, including securing German patents for six inventions and receiving national and international appointments. These felicitations were expressed during the Senate's 538th Regular Meeting held on Thursday, July 25, 2024.

The Senate also celebrated the university's recognition as the second overall winner of the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) 4th National Tertiary Admissions Performance Merit Award, which came with a prize of N75 million. Additionally, ABU was honored as the Best Performing ICT Academy Support Centre (iASC) in Sub-Saharan Africa and was upgraded to global status at the Huawei iASC.

Further commendation was given to the Department of Haematology and Blood Transfusion for its inclusion among the sites for the Sickle Pan African Research Consortium Nigeria Network (SPARC-Net).

The Senate also acknowledged the promotion of 25 staff members to the rank of Professor and 20 to Reader/Principal Research Fellow.

In other resolutions, the Senate expressed satisfaction with the security measures implemented by the University Security Division to manage human and vehicular traffic, ensuring the safety of the university community. It also emphasized the importance of faculties collaborating with the Directorate of Advancement and International Education (DAIE) to mobilize alumni support for sustainable development efforts.

Lastly, the Senate reminded Deans and Heads of Departments to ensure that staff members switch off all lights and appliances when leaving their offices to address electricity conservation.
