The Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo (FUHSO), has strengthened its collaboration with the Adabahi Foundation following a sustained intervention that has provided free water to student hostels amid ongoing water scarcity in the Otukpo metropolis.

The Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo (FUHSO), has strengthened its collaboration with the Adabahi Foundation following a sustained intervention that has provided free water to student hostels amid ongoing water scarcity in the Otukpo metropolis.

The Foundation, which has been supplying water to the university community in recent months, was formally received on March 24, 2026, at the University’s Senate Chamber. The delegation, led by Honourable Architect Adam Adabahi, was welcomed by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Professor Godwin Friday Okibe, representing the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Francis Aba Uba.

Speaking during the visit, Professor Okibe expressed the institution’s appreciation for what he described as a timely and high-impact intervention. He noted that the water supply initiative has significantly eased operational pressure on the university while enabling students and staff to maintain basic hygiene and sustain academic activities with minimal disruption.

He also indicated the university’s readiness to deepen collaboration with the Foundation, stating that discussions would extend beyond emergency support to long-term developmental initiatives. He commended the Foundation’s efforts in identifying a viable, sustainable water source for the institution.

In his remarks, Adam Adabahi described the university management as responsive and forward-looking, noting that the current water distribution programme is only a short-term measure. He revealed that plans are underway to establish a permanent water supply system capable of meeting the long-term needs of the university community.

He further emphasised the role of knowledge-driven leadership in national development, arguing that governance must be anchored on capacity and informed decision-making. He acknowledged existing gaps in the delivery of democratic benefits to citizens and reaffirmed the Foundation’s commitment to impactful social interventions. He also disclosed plans to establish a permanent office for the Foundation to strengthen its operational footprint and partnership capacity.

Other university officials highlighted the broader significance of the initiative. The Registrar, Mr Michael Okoko Ogiji, described the intervention as a model of civic responsibility and pledged institutional support to amplify the Foundation’s impact. The Dean of Student Affairs, Dr Peter Adikwu, commended the Foundation for its proactive engagement, noting that such contributions reflect a longstanding tradition of external support that has aided the university’s development.

The visit concluded with the formal presentation of a letter of appreciation to the Foundation, underscoring the university’s recognition of its contributions and commitment to sustaining the partnership.
