Admiralty University of Nigeria (ADUN) Gets First Ever Deputy Vice Chancellor

Rear Admiral Mohammed Miftah Abdullahi has been appointed the first substantive Deputy Vice Chancellor (DVC) of the Admiralty University of Nigeria (ADUN), a federal university owned by the Nigerian Navy.

The DVC’s position, according to Admiralty University Establishment Act, is designated for a serving Naval officer from the rank of Commodore who possesses a Ph.D.

Until his appointment as DVC, he was the Director of Equipment Standardization and Harmonization at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria. Admiral Abdullahi assumed duty at the university's Ibusa campus on June 7, 2024.

He was welcomed by the Acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Dili Ofuokwu, and other Principal Officers, including the Registrar, Commodore Isaac Mankilik (retd.), Bursar Captain MO Abani, Ph.D and University Librarian Dr. Mrs. Gladys Onyia.

Professor Ofuokwu expressed the university's delight in receiving the DVC, highlighting the timeliness of the appointment as ADUN anticipates the final stage of its transition to a full-fledged federal university under the Nigerian Navy's leadership.

An extended Management meeting, including, Deans of Faculties, and Directors of academic and non-academic Departments, was held at the Senate Conference Room to formally welcome the new DVC.

Rear Admiral Abdullahi expressed his sense of belonging at ADUN, considering himself part of the university family as a scholar. He views this appointment as an exciting opportunity, having always envisioned returning to academia after his military retirement.

Background of Rear Admiral Abdullahi

A member of the 40th Regular Course of the Nigerian Defence Academy, joining on September 10, 1988.

Holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Electronics & Telecommunications Engineering and a Master of Technology (MTech) in Telecommunications Engineering, both from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.

Earned a Doctorate (PhD) in Telecommunications Engineering from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
