In a significant development, the Kaduna State Government has announced the release of the 287 schoolchildren who were abducted from Kuriga in the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The announcement was made in a statement signed by the state governor, Senator Uba Sani, on Sunday.
The governor expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his prioritization of the safety and security of Nigerians, particularly in ensuring the safe release of the abducted Kuriga schoolchildren. The abduction took place on March 7, 2024, when hoodlums seized the schoolchildren from LEA Primary School and Government Secondary School, Kuriga, and took them into the forest. The abductors demanded a ransom of N1 billion for their release, setting a deadline of March 27, 2024, for payment.
Governor Uba Sani also expressed gratitude to all Nigerians who fervently prayed for the safe return of the schoolchildren, emphasizing that their release brings joy and relief to the entire nation. He attributed the success of the rescue operation to the concerted efforts of security forces and the prayers of the people.
