BUK Releases Advice on Taking Fire Safety Measures Amid Dry Season Threats
Bayero University, Kano, has issued a cautionary notice to its community members as the dry season approaches.

With the dry weather often leading to fire outbreaks due to indiscriminate bush burning, the university administration urges all individuals within the community to take necessary precautions.
The notice highlights the importance of clearing grass and weeds in the vicinity to prevent fire incidents. It specifically addresses residents of the university campuses and Zoo Road staff quarters, emphasizing the need to educate children and house help about the dangers of setting fires indiscriminately. Parents are urged to keep matches and lighters out of children's reach.

Members of staff are reminded to turn off electrical appliances before leaving their offices at the end of the day to prevent electrical-related fire hazards.
The University expressly prohibits the use of bush-burning as a method for clearing dried grasses around residences or office premises. Moreover, setting fire to rubbish dumps and leaving the site unattended is strictly forbidden. Anyone found responsible for causing damage or loss to University or individual property due to careless fire handling will be held liable for repairs or compensation, in addition to penalties imposed by the University Authority.
The Security Division encourages the community to trim grass and weeds in their surroundings and notify the Sanitation Unit for proper disposal.
In case of fire outbreaks or observed security breaches, members of the University Community are advised to promptly contact the security office through provided telephone numbers categorized by campus zones.
