College of Education Minna Set for University Conversion

A new bill is underway to convert the College of Education Minna into a university of education, reflecting the ongoing reforms in the educational sector. While the College of Education Minna currently runs degree programs in affiliation with Sokoto State University and Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), the proposed conversion seeks to solidify its status as an independent degree-awarding institution. Additionally, the federal government is reforming the Federal College of Education in Kontagora to enable it to award degrees in education, further improving educational standards in the state.

The current capabilities of the College of Education Minna indicate it can effectively run degree programs without requiring conversion. The House Education Committee is advocating for swift action on the bill, emphasizing the importance of modernizing educational institutions in Niger State.
