A deadly clash between suspected cult groups, the Vikings and Icelanders, has occurred at Ignatius Ajuru University of Education in Rumuolumeni, Rivers State. The violent confrontation took place on Monday during the university's Students' Week celebrations.
Eyewitnesses reported that the fight involved students armed with machetes, resulting in severe injuries. Initial reports suggest that one person is feared dead from wounds inflicted during the altercation.
However, NGOZI OKIRIDU, the university's Public Relations Officer, contradicted these reports. She stated that no fatalities occurred, attributing the injuries to the intervention of security operatives who managed to halt the violence. OKIRIDU explained that the ONELGA Security and Protection Advisory Council (OSPAC), tasked with maintaining order during the Students' Week, successfully prevented further escalation.
The university is addressing the situation, reaffirming its commitment to student safety and ensuring that such incidents do not disrupt the academic environment.
