DELSU Orders Investigation into Violent Incident During Students’ Week
A disagreement between the Students’ Union president, the president of the department, and some event attendees led to a physical altercation, resulting in injuries to one of the guests.
The Vice-Chancellor of Delta State University, Abraka, Prof. Andy Egwunyenga, has initiated an investigation into the violence that erupted during the social activities of the Students’ Union Week. This information was contained in a statement released by the university on Saturday.
The conflict occurred on Wednesday during a welcome party organized by a department for all 100-level students. A disagreement between the Students’ Union president, the president of the department, and some event attendees led to a physical altercation, resulting in injuries to one of the guests.

The Vice-Chancellor expressed strong disapproval of the incident, stating, “The University administration received with sadness and strong disapproval the report of violence and disorderly conduct involving some students and Students Union officials at the Pre-Degree Hall and other parts of the university between 6.39 pm and 7.30 pm on Wednesday, June 5, 2024.”
A committee has been formed to investigate the causes of the incident. Prof. Egwunyenga assured that all individuals found culpable will be dealt with according to university regulations.
