EKSU Confirms Receipt of N3.16bn NELFUND Student Loan Disbursement for 10,457 Students
Ekiti State University (EKSU) has confirmed the receipt of N3,156,459,500 from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) as part of the Federal Government’s student loan intervention aimed at improving access to higher education.

The university disclosed that the fund was used to settle institutional fees for 10,457 students for the 2025/2026 academic session, providing financial relief to thousands of beneficiaries and enabling them to continue their studies.
The confirmation was contained in an official acknowledgement letter dated July 13, 2026, addressed to the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NELFUND, Akintunde Sawyerr, and signed by the Vice-Chancellor of EKSU, Professor Joseph Ayodele.
According to the letter, the disbursement was made through seven separate batches between February and March 2026.

The first payment of N309,315,625 was received on February 9, 2026, for 1,093 student beneficiaries. This was followed by N93,949,750 for 270 students on February 16; N340,625,000 for 1,070 students on February 18; and N676,595,875 for 2,307 students on February 24.
In March, the university received N897,140,250 on March 10 for 3,048 students, representing the largest single disbursement. Additional payments included N535,011,125 for 1,713 students on March 23, and N303,822,375 for 956 students on March 30.
Expressing appreciation for the intervention, Professor Ayodele commended NELFUND for the timely support, noting that the funding had significantly contributed to ensuring that students’ institutional fees were settled and that they remained enrolled in the university.
The Vice-Chancellor stated that EKSU looks forward to continued partnership with NELFUND in future academic sessions to further expand access to quality higher education through sustainable student financing initiatives.
