Empowering Tomorrow's Leaders: KASU Students Gear Up for Self-Sufficiency through SIWES Orientation

The Industrial Training Fund (ITF) held an orientation program for the 300-level students of Kaduna State University (KASU) on Tuesday, 14th May 2024, at the 1000-seater auditorium of the main campus.

Facilitated by the Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) and partnered with the United Bank of Africa (UBA) and Access Bank, the orientation aimed to prepare students for their upcoming SIWES course, which is designed to introduce them to entrepreneurship.

In her speech, Prof. Helen Afang Andow, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of strategy Innovation and Service Delivery, representing the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdullahi I. Musa, emphasised the importance of acquiring practical skills to complement their academic qualifications. She encouraged students to think creatively and excel during their training to make their parents and the university proud. Prof. Andow highlighted that this would help students avoid unemployment by becoming self-sufficient and potentially employing others, thereby contributing to their communities.

Mr. Daniel Tambari, Director of the ITF, also urged students to strive for excellence during their training to leave a positive legacy at their designated workplaces. ITF facilitators underscored the SIWES course as a crucial opportunity for students to gain workforce experience and possibly secure employment before or after graduation. Students received instructions on filling out ITF forms and the regulations governing their conduct.

In his closing remarks, the Director of SIWES-KASU, Prof. Isaac Hyuk Daniel, expressed gratitude to the guests and reiterated the program's significance, wishing the students success in their training.

The event concluded with a question-and-answer session, where facilitators addressed students' inquiries about their training.
