The Enugu State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing the education sector, announcing plans to transition graduates of the newly established Smart Green Schools into 17 Smart Senior Secondary Schools and eight Science, Technical, and Vocational Schools. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to improve educational outcomes across the state, with construction currently underway in all 260 wards.

This information was shared by the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ndubueze Mbah, during a recent march past of primary and secondary schools celebrating Nigeria's 64th Independence Day. He emphasized the importance of education as a foundation for independence and national development.

Prof. Mbah highlighted the success of the Smart Green School at Owo, which opened in January with 865 students and 27 teachers, focusing on experiential learning and sustainable development projects. Students are engaged in various innovative programs, including establishing a Smart Farm that supports their school meal program and utilizing robotics to design smart home models.

Furthermore, Prof. Mbah announced that the first cohort of 60 students from the Owo campus received full scholarships to prestigious local colleges, such as Holy Rosary College and the College of Immaculate Conception.

Governor Peter Mbah, represented by Secretary to the State Government Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, underscored the significance of ongoing investment in education, committing 33 percent of the state's annual budget to this sector. He expressed optimism that with collaborative efforts, the state can secure a bright future for its youth.

The Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs, and Social Development, Mrs. Ngozi Enih, reiterated the administration's priority of safeguarding children's education and well-being.

Students expressed gratitude for the government's educational initiatives, which have inspired confidence in their future prospects. The event also featured a march past led by key officials, culminating in the presentation of trophies to outstanding schools.
