Expert Urges Nigerian Students to Explore Career Opportunities in Technology Sector

Mahmood Owolabi, co-founder of the EdTech platform Transition School, has urged Nigerians to seize the burgeoning career opportunities within the technology sector. Speaking at a media roundtable organized by his UK-based firm, Owolabi highlighted the transformative potential of tech careers, particularly in Nigeria's rapidly expanding economy.
Owolabi, who has faced significant challenges in both the Nigerian and UK job markets, shared insights drawn from his extensive experience in the tech industry. He stated, “Tech is not just a growing field; it is a revolutionary force reshaping industries globally. For Nigeria, with its rapidly growing population and the urgent need for education, technology offers a vital avenue for economic and professional advancement.”
Owolabi emphasized the crucial role of technology in addressing educational gaps in Nigeria. “Many traditional educational systems struggle to keep pace with the demands of a growing student population. EdTech provides scalable solutions, offering accessible, efficient, and innovative learning methods,” he explained.
Transition School, which offers a six-week intensive training program, exemplifies the potential of EdTech to significantly impact the educational landscape. “Our program is designed to prepare individuals for careers in tech roles globally. We have successfully trained over 100 students, equipping them with in-demand skills that enhance their employability and contribute to broader economic growth through education,” Owolabi noted.
Looking to the future, he announced that Transition School would soon unveil a new EdTech access model aimed at providing opportunities for Nigeria’s youth and other nationals to engage with global players in the tech industry. “We are excited about this upcoming model, which we believe will create even more pathways for young professionals to excel internationally,” Owolabi stressed.
Additionally, he addressed the broader implications of technology, asserting that “while Nigeria is a focal point, the impact of tech extends to advanced economies as well, demonstrating its relevance across diverse markets.”
