The University of Benin is set to benefit from the Federal Government’s newly approved N68.7 billion Solar Minigrid Electricity Project, alongside seven other federal universities across the country.

Vice Chancellor, Professor Edoba Omoregie, SAN, commended President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for fulfilling his promise to upscale tertiary education through targeted funding of pressing needs. He described the project as a major step toward providing stable electricity to boost research and learning, in line with national development goals.

The approval was announced by the Minister of Power, Mr. Adebayo Adelabu, after the Federal Executive Council meeting chaired by President Tinubu.

Tagged Energizing Education, the initiative forms the fourth phase of the Federal Government’s strategic plan to deliver stable and affordable electricity to public tertiary institutions.

The benefiting universities in this phase include the University of Benin, University of Lagos, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, University of Nigeria Nsukka, University of Ibadan, Obafemi Awolowo University Ile Ife, Federal University Dutse, and Federal University Wukari.

The project, facilitated through the Rural Electrification Agency, is expected to be completed within nine months.
