FG Upgrades Enugu Dental College to University, Names CMDs for Abuja and Bayelsa
This development follows Tinubu's recent appointment as the African Union Champion for Human Resources for Health and Community Health Delivery Partnership, signaling a commitment to healthcare reforms.
President Bola Tinubu has approved the conversion of the Federal College of Dental Technology and Therapy, Enugu, to a full-fledged University of Allied Health Sciences. This decision was disclosed by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, in a statement released on Thursday.
The institution will now be known as the Federal University of Allied Health Sciences, Enugu, and will be under the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.
This development follows Tinubu's recent appointment as the African Union Champion for Human Resources for Health and Community Health Delivery Partnership, signaling a commitment to healthcare reforms.
Amid ongoing health reforms, the Federal Government aims to train 120,000 frontline health workers nationwide within 16 months and double the number of primary health facilities in local communities across the 774 local government areas.
Additionally, President Tinubu approved the appointment of Dr. James Omietimi as the Chief Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, and reappointed Professor Sa’ad Ahmed as the Chief Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre, Abuja.

Omietimi, a graduate of the University of Port Harcourt, specializes in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, while Ahmed, a professor of Pathology at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, will serve a second term as CMD of the Federal Medical Centre, Abuja.
Ngelale emphasized that Tinubu expects the newly appointed CMDs to utilize their expertise to ensure the consistent delivery of quality healthcare services to all Nigerians.
