FUL Senate Honours All-Africa University Games Medalists with Scholarships and Cash Rewards
The Federal University Lokoja (FUL) Senate rewarded its athletes from the 2024 All-Africa University Games with scholarships and cash prizes in recognition of their outstanding performance.
The Senate of the Federal University Lokoja (FUL) has celebrated the outstanding performance of its students who represented the University at the 2024 All-Africa University Games by awarding them scholarships and financial rewards. This announcement was made during the institution's 87th Senate meeting, led by the Vice-Chancellor and Chairman of the Senate, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi.
Professor Akinwumi stated that the athletes who participated in the competition would receive full scholarships for the next academic session, as well as cash rewards for the medalists. In addition to these honors, the Vice-Chancellor pledged to induct the athletes into FUL’s Hall of Fame, highlighting the University's dedication to academic and sporting excellence.
Despite this being FUL's first participation in the All-Africa University Games, the University secured three bronze medals, marking a significant achievement. Blessing Adat and Mohammed Hafisat won two bronze medals in women’s doubles badminton, while Atojoko Murtala Mohammed clinched a bronze in taekwondo. These victories reflect FUL's commitment to sports development and have placed the University on the continental medal table.
During the Senate meeting, Professor Akinwumi praised the athletes for their exceptional performances, urging them and the broader university community to "Keep the FUL flag flying high." As a token of appreciation, each bronze medalist received a cash reward of 20,000 Naira, further motivating students to strive for excellence in both academics and sports.
