Some Young people with passion for building and designing digital devices recently learned new skills to equip them to be better at what they do at the Automated Contact Tracing Research Group (ACTRG) 3-day ACTRG SMART Workshop at the Federal University of Technology Akure, FUTA.
The workshop was an immersive experience, covering topics ranging from the fundamentals of design and the intricacies of components assembling, to programming and case studies.
Participants from different fields including Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information and Communication Engineering, and Mechatronics were exposed to hands-on experience, preparing them for actualization of their digital dreams. The workshop was not just about learning; it was about creating, innovating, and pushing boundaries in the digital world.
There was an enlightening session on the Fundamentals of IoT by Prof Olutayo Boyinbode, followed by a Q&A and an introductory workshop. Dr Emmanuel Ibam took the participants through Problem Solving with IoT.while Daniel Adeniyi led two engaging workshops on networking and networking standards for IoT using the esp32, followed by a hands-on session.
Prof. Kolawole Akintola discussed Engineering IoT Systems with the attendees. Dr Joseph Dada then guided the participants through Monitoring Air Quality with IoT, followed by another hands-on session. Miss Joy Temitope led a workshop and presented a case study on IoT lighting System. Engrs. Olaide Agbolade and Ayobami Adedokun also assisted in taking the participants through some basic and important hands-on sessions.
The tech workshop, which held between July 27th and 29th provided rich, dynamic and interactive sessions that kept participants engaged throughout. It was a blend of knowledge, skill, and fun, providing a platform for tech enthusiasts to learn, create, and share.
According to the convener, Professor Bolanle Ojokoh, “ACTRG focuses on Artificial Intelligence, Data Analytics and Internet of Things technologies & concepts to build solutions to Automated Contact Tracing. At FUTA, we're not just about learning; we're about making a difference in the digital world. "
The project is partly funded by the Nigerian Tertiary Education Trust Fund under the auspices of the Nigerian Research Foundation, NRF and hosted by the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Nigeria. The group is led by Prof. Bolanle Ojokoh of Information Systems department.
