The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) is hosting the 4th edition of the annual Digital Literacy Training Programme, organized by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) in collaboration with the Digital Bridge Institute (DBI). This initiative, approved by the Federal Government, aims to enhance digital literacy across Nigeria’s university communities, equipping participants with advanced technological skills aligned with global standards.

The training, which covers areas such as data science, cybersecurity, and digital communication tools, is designed to empower attendees with essential digital knowledge to keep pace with the rapidly evolving tech landscape. It also positions Nigerian universities as key players in the country's growing digital economy.

Speaking at the event, Professor Sunday Adewale, FUTA’s Coordinator for Adapt and the university's focal point for the training, expressed gratitude to NCC and DBI for once again selecting FUTA as a host venue. “This training aligns perfectly with FUTA’s mission to foster technological innovation and digital advancement, equipping our staff with the skills necessary to compete globally,” he said.

Mr. Ikenna Ogbanufe, Training Coordinator from DBI, highlighted the significance of the initiative, emphasizing its role in preparing Nigerian institutions like FUTA to leverage digital technologies for meaningful contributions to global knowledge. “By consistently executing this training, we are ensuring that Nigerian universities remain at the forefront of digital advancement,” he added.

The Dean of the School of Computing, Professor Kayode Alese, praised the programme, stating that it offers invaluable resources for participants to navigate the complexities of the digital world and unlock new opportunities in various technological fields.

This year’s training continues to draw participants eager to build on previous knowledge, further solidifying FUTA’s position as a hub for digital innovation and capacity development, while contributing to the Federal Government’s vision of creating a digitally skilled workforce.
