Gombe State University today hosted the 3rd Professor Abdullahi Mahadi Memorial Lecture, a prestigious annual event held in honour of the late renowned academic, former Vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, and pioneer Vice Chancellor of Gombe State University, Professor Abdullahi Mahadi.

In his welcoming remarks, the Vice Chancellor of Gombe State University, Professor Sani Ahmed Yauta, praised the enduring legacies of Professor Mahadi, describing him as a visionary leader whose passion, wisdom, and exemplary service laid a strong foundation for the University. He warmly welcomed all dignitaries, scholars, staff, students, and guests, expressing gratitude for their presence and continued support for Gombe State University and the memorial lecture series.

The lecture was delivered by Professor Attahiru Muhammad Jega, former Vice Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano; former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC); and a distinguished political science scholar. Professor Jega spoke on the topic, “Challenges and Prospects of Improving University Governance in Nigeria,” offering rich insights and engaging the audience with critical reflections relevant to national development and the future of university education.

Dignitaries at the event included the Chief of Staff, Government House Taraba State, Dr. Jeji William, representing the Governor of Taraba State; the Chief of Staff, Government House Gombe, Alhaji Abubakar Inuwa Kyari; heads of institutions in Gombe State; and other distinguished guests.

The Special Guest of Honour, the Executive Governor of Gombe State, was represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Manasseh Daniel Jatau, who commended the University for sustaining the legacy of Professor Mahadi through the annual lecture series. He highlighted the importance of intellectual discourse in advancing governance and strengthening democratic institutions.

The event was chaired by the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Kashere, Professor Umaru A. Pate, who, in his remarks, acknowledged the immense contributions of Professor Mahadi to the growth of higher education in Nigeria.
