Group Demands Sack of UNIMED Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Fatusi
The Coalition of Ondo State Indigenes Against Corruption (COIAC) has called for the dismissal of Prof. Adesgun Fatusi, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), citing allegations of corruption and mismanagement.
A coalition of Ondo State indigenes, under the banner of the Coalition of Ondo State Indigenes Against Corruption (COIAC), has called on Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to investigate and address alleged unethical activities by the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo town, Prof. Adesgun Fatusi.
During a protest at the Governor’s Office, COIAC accused Prof. Fatusi of corruption and mismanagement, claiming that UNIMED is struggling to survive under his leadership. The group, representing concerned stakeholders, voiced their determination to prevent the institution from further decline.
Feyi Emmanuel, speaking on behalf of the protesters, expressed their dissatisfaction with the current state of the university. "UNIMED is our institution of pride in Ondo State, a leading institution in medicine and other relevant medical courses," Emmanuel stated. "Unfortunately, the university has deteriorated under Prof. Fatusi's administration. Our demand is simple: Fatusi must go."
The protesters alleged financial mismanagement and criticized the employment practices at UNIMED, claiming that 70% of staff are non-indigenes. They urged the governor to investigate the financial status of the university and take immediate action to remove Prof. Fatusi.

In response to these allegations, Isaac Oluyi, the university's spokeswoman, dismissed the claims as baseless and attributed them to detractors. Oluyi highlighted the significant progress UNIMED has made under Prof. Fatusi's leadership, noting that the university is ranked as the 4th best state-owned university in Nigeria.
"This is the first specialized university of medical sciences in Nigeria, and it has grown remarkably under Prof. Fatusi," Oluyi said. "The achievements are evident, and it's laughable to claim that the university is in ruins."
Oluyi invited the public to visit UNIMED and witness the accomplishments firsthand, asserting that the results speak for themselves.
