House Committee to Hold Public Hearing on Nine Agricultural Institutions Bills
During the debate on the bill, Hon. Agbese emphasized the importance of agriculture for the nation's economy, stating, "Nations are returning to the farm to boost their economy. In our darling country, petroleum can no longer sustain us. If agriculture is the way forward, the focus should be on establishing world-class learning institutions."
The House of Representatives Committee on Agricultural Colleges and Institutions will hold a public hearing on Monday regarding nine bills aimed at establishing various agricultural institutions across Nigeria.
One key bill proposes the establishment of the Federal University of Agriculture at Ute-Okpu in Delta State, which will include comprehensive provisions for its management and administration. This bill, sponsored by Deputy House Spokesman Hon. Philip Agbese, was first introduced on July 13, 2023, and passed its second reading on November 10, 2023.

During the debate on the bill, Hon. Agbese emphasized the importance of agriculture for the nation's economy, stating, "Nations are returning to the farm to boost their economy. In our darling country, petroleum can no longer sustain us. If agriculture is the way forward, the focus should be on establishing world-class learning institutions." He noted that over 90 percent of the people in Ute-Okpu and neighboring communities are farmers, highlighting the need for educational institutions to promote best practices in agriculture.
The committee, chaired by Hon. Akeem Adeniyi Adeyemi, will also consider several other bills during the public hearing. These include:
1. A Bill for an Act to Establish the Federal University of Agriculture, Fiditi, Oyo State.
2. A Bill for an Act to Establish the Federal University of Agriculture, Ako, Nike, Enugu State.
3. A Bill for an Act to Establish the Federal College of Agriculture, Ise, Ekiti State.
4. A Bill for an Act to Establish the Federal College of Agriculture, Misau, Bauchi State.

After the public hearing, the committee is expected to submit its report to the House for consideration.
