Igbinedion University, Okada (IUO) has inaugurated its 2025 Entrepreneurial Skills Acquisition and Employability Training Programme, aimed at equipping students with the knowledge and skills to become job creators and key contributors to national economic growth.

Speaking at the launch, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Lawrence Ikechukwu Ezemonye, emphasized the urgent need for Nigerian universities to evolve from being centres of “knowledge consumption” to “value creation.” He described entrepreneurship as the future of higher education and commended the institution’s founder, Sir Chief Dr. Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion, for exemplifying the entrepreneurial spirit that continues to inspire IUO’s mission.
The event also featured an address by Mr. Paul Ageewua, representing the Edo State Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), who provided practical insights on business formation and sustainability. He urged students to formalize their ventures through registration with the CAC to ensure legal protection and eligibility for grants and partnerships.

The University’s Centre for Entrepreneurship showcased its commitment to experiential learning through its 13 specialized schools and international partnerships designed to give students hands-on training and global exposure.
The ceremony ended with a call for students to seize the opportunity to transform their ideas into viable enterprises, combining innovation, discipline, and strategic learning to drive Nigeria’s economic development.
